A FAMILY HISTORY

Today the rustic stone farmhouse of our great grandparents is a warm and welcoming farm b&b completely eco friendly, a place where the furniture and methods continue to tell their antique story.

OUR HOME

Completely immersed in tranquil woodland and built in the traditional style of the Apennines, our home is no more than 3 minutes from Berceto: an ancient medieval village in the mountains of the province of Parma. Just outside main transport routes, Casa Cani is a true oasis of tranquility with an abundance of fruit trees and lavender crops accompanied by fresh air and the silent woodland. Warm and welcoming, completely restored respecting its history, Casa Cani was built and inhabited with love by our great grandparents where today you too can try the peace and tranquility as a our guest. Previously a barn, now a breakfast room supported by columns of stone giving you a moment to enjoy the rustic architecture while enjoying your breakfast made with genuine homemade products using organic ingredients grown by us, while the beautiful and comfortable bedrooms will help you relax.

CLEAN AIR AND SERENITY

Far from every form of stress, around 800 meters above sea level, our house is completely immersed in nature surrounded by fields and woodlands full of beech, oak and chestnut trees. The clean air and silence will follow you during your stay with us.

ORGANIC FARM

At our organic farm we grow seasonal fruit and vegetables. At breakfast you will try our fresh fruit and jams grown and prepared from the produce of our fields. We also grow botanicals, mainly lavender and camomile, using sustainable farming methods, and you will see how we harvest and vapour-distil the lavender to produce fully organic lavender essential oil, which is available to buy along with our other products. You will see how we run our farm at one with nature, using traditional farming methods.

EXPLORE, VISIT, ENJOY

Even if peace and relax are our dominant themes during your stay with us, boredom won’t be a problem. A few minutes walk from Casa Cani, or an hour in the car, you can pass your time doing re creative and sporting activities, or visit places rich in history, art and nature.

TREKKING

A web of walkways make for good trekking around Casa Cani. Walkways crossing villages and nature that tell the historic story of the rural Apennines along the antique Via Francigena, able to satisfy all tastes.

MOUNTAIN BIKE

The surrounding mountains around Casa Cani are full of bike trails for mountain bike lovers, from simple pathways to white knuckle climbs and descents to satisfy pro mtb riders. If you don’t have a bike… We have one for you!

BIRDWATCHING

A relaxing but emotional activity that can have many surprises. Apart from the all the species of sparrow, around Berceto it is possible to see birds of prey such as goshawks, falcons, owls and even eagles.

BATHING IN THE STREAMS

Here the summer temperature is usually warm and enjoyable, but if you find it too hot you can always cool off in the stream a few meters from Casa Cani and enjoy the fresh mountain water no matter your age group.

HORSE RIDING

The area has numerous tracks ideal for horse riding around Berceto, perfect for beginners and experts that offer incredible panoramas of exceptional beauty, antique roads and stunning castles.

FISHING

Around Casa Cani, you can go fishing in different places around the Taro, Ceno and Baganza streams. The most common fish being trout but many more waiting to be discovered.

SEARCHING FOR THE ICONIC FLAVORSOME PORCINO MUSHROOM
The Porcino of the Apennines in this area are known and appreciated around the world as a local wonder since the 16th century. Around Casa Cani these gems can be found in the fields and woods, but how can you take them home?
PERMISSION TO COLLECT MUSHROOMS? LEAVE THAT TO US
Casa Cani can arrange for a local day permission to hunt and collect porcini for non residents. This way you only have to think about getting here ready for the mushroom hunt.

LESS THAN ONE HOUR AWAY

DUCATO CASTLES

In and around Berceto you can visit numerous castles all built between the 12th and 15th century boasting incredible art, history and landscapes. Guided tours are available and very often group activities for children.

MUSIC AND THEATER

The birthplace of Verdi and Toscanini, full of theaters such as Bussetto, Teatro Regio di Parma, Magnani di Fidenza and the castle of music in Noceto.

SEA AND THE BEACHES

Casa Cani is exactly half way between the river Po and the sea. Ten minutes away we have the autostrada that takes you to the stunning Liguria coastline: Lerici, Portovenere and Le Cinque Terre, or the sandy beaches of Versilia.

THE CUISINE

The province of Parma is world famous for its culinary excellence. Around Casa Cani there are not only numerous trattorie and restaurants, you can also visit places of production that make cured meats and cheese such as the famous Parma ham and Parmesan cheese.

PARMA “CITY OF ARTS”

Parma was born during roman times, having grand moments of splendor during the 16th and 17th century rich with history, tradition, monuments and shops. A trip to the Ducal city of Parma is a must see for all who come to Casa Cani.

THE MAGICAL PARK OF 100 LAKES

A few kilometers from Casa Cani you visit the huge unspoiled Park of 100 lakes where the clear waters, woods, pastures and tiny villages have brought man and nature together for centuries.

THE VIA FRANCIGENA

Berceto is at the 21st stage of the Via Francigena: The antique road took pilgrims from Canterbury to Rome during medieval times. The Via Francigena, was widely used long before it was of religious importance, connecting Tuscany to the flat lands making Berceto an important place along the ancient road. In Berceto you can admire the roman cathedral that welcomed the pilgrims on their way to Rome.

THE GREAT BRIDLE ROAD

The Val Taro/Val Ceno bridle road weaves through the hills, valleys and mountains of the Parma Appenines making a perfect circuit. A journey that offers incredible veiws, antique places and stunning castles giving you the sensation of living in different times, over the hills, through the oak and chestnut woods, crossing streams and even some parts traveling along the Via Francigena
